Tim and his family have been farming since the early 1970s on land that in part goes back four generations. Years ago, Tim ran a commercial poultry operation but gave that up to focus his energy on producing beef. It’s a family affair that includes his brother, Tony, and his daughter, Sheila.

Tim is a planner and when he first joined our network, he developed a five- year plan to transition his traditional cow/calf operation to finish more beef for local markets. Today, that plan is nearly complete. He now calves three times a year to ensure consistent supply, supplements with Firsthand’s specialty high-fiber concentrate to ensure meat quality, and practices intensive rotational grazing to improve the performance of his pastures. He and Sheila are also developing their own direct-to-consumer program for on-farm beef sales called “Affordable Freezer Beef.”
In addition to cattle production, Tim rents several homes on his property. And Sheila manages Chatham Portables, their successful port-a-potty business. When Tim has a rare moment away from the farm and work, he enjoys spending time with his six grandchildren.
