This year’s Tour de Pork is on the receiving end of some serious love from Triangle media. They helped us kick off the Tour with a lively tasting of barbecued spareribs at Fullsteam Brewery. Coverage was provided by the fine folks at Discover Durham, RaleighWhatsUp, NC Tripping, Destination Magazine, Food Diary of a City Girl, and Life of a Ginger. We’re excited to hear from them and others, including cheerwineanddine, as they continue the Tour. By tasting different dishes, they help showcase how participating restaurants, by working with Firsthand Foods, help utilize whole hogs sourced from sustainable farms.
The Indy spent some time with Sean Wilson, Founder of Fullsteam Brewery, who recalled how before the brewery started serving food, Firsthand Foods was one of the first food trucks ever stationed outside Fullsteam. And now, as the Triangle Business Journal explores in an interview with Company Co-Founders, Tina Prevatte Levy and Jennifer Curtis, Firsthand Foods has evolved into a regional food hub that provides critical infrastructure and market access to helps small farmers thrive.
Helping us spread the word to restaurant goers and local food lovers, Durham Off-Line describes the Tour as a scavanger hunt. It’s an opportunity to win prizes, support local farmers and eat some of Durham’s best pork dishes. Lastly, to entice Durham visitors, Destination Magazine will be featuring the Tour in its July review of boutique destinations and events in North Carolina.
