The company was founded in 2008 by Rob Meyer, a Raleigh native who after graduating from college, served in the Peace Corps in Ecuador, where he became immersed in the foodways of the country. Inspired by their interwoven, self-reliant local food supply chains, Rob came back to the Triangle to build a similar model suitable for the Triangle community. The result is Papa Spuds, which has grown considerably in the past 10 years to offer over 200 products and deliver to households in Apex, Carrboro, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Morrisville, Raleigh and Wake Forest.Customers can choose to purchase Firsthand Foods beef, lamb or pork products ala carte, or as part of a seasonal “meat share” (typically offered in volume at a discount), or as part of a meal kit that includes produce and fresh herbs (e.g., Chorizo & Potato Tacos with Guacamole Taquero).
