Steve Walker inherited his family’s farm and lives in the house where he was born. From the time he bottle-fed his first calf at the age of 10, Steve has been a enthralled with raising beef. One of the benefits of owning and operating the same land for multiple generations is the ability to invest in soil-building and pasture improvement projects.
Over the years, Steve has developed pastures with a diversity of forage species and it shows in the health of his animals. For his initiative fencing-out streams and installing waterers across his farm, Steve received the 2013 Environmental Stewardship Award from the NC Forage & Grasslands Council. After 27 years working for Southern States, Steve recently retired. He’s excited to have more time to spend with his herd.
